over worldsNEUupdated
"World" is another name for a server hosting characters.
Worlds are divided into data centers based on the location of their servers. To ensure you have as few latency issues as possible, it is recommended, but not required, that you select a data center closest to where you are playing. Legacy worlds (servers that have existed since the original release) are given in parentheses.
To play with friends
Each world contains the same enemies, items, and story, but you can only interact with players on worlds in the same physical data center. It's much easier to play with friends when you share the same world, so keep that in mind when creating your character. Players who share a home world can play together regardless of the platform they are running the game on.
Players located on different homeworlds can still play together using theworld tour(*1) system or the onedata center travel(*2) System.
*1 The World Visit system allows you to temporarily visit other worlds in the same logical data center.
*2 The Data Center Travel System allows you to temporarily visit worlds outside your logical data center while staying in your physical data center.
For more information about these systems and their limitations, seeFINAL FANTASY XIV Guia.
The Lodestone Station and Moogle
Only your homeworld name will be displayed in Lodestone and Moogle Station. Using the world visit system does not affect the display of your home world.
