You only need two simple letters to accurately convey the big change in the tech space this year:And I also. Beyond those letters, however, lies the complex, evolving, and exciting ways in which we work, communicate, and collaborate. As you'll see, artificial intelligence is a common thread as we move through Microsoft Build, our annual flagship event for developers.
This has already been a significant year for the industry, which began in January with the announcement of the expansion of our partnership with OpenAI to accelerate AI discoveries and ensure these benefits are widely shared with the world. And in February, Microsoft announced a new AI-powered Bing search engine and Edge browser to transform the world's largest software category: search.
Since then, development has picked up at a brisk pace, with several key milestones along the way, including:
- Higher availabilityAzure OpenAI Servicewith additional support for ChatGPT and the revolutionary GPT-4 model of OpenAI.
- Kopilotifor a wide range of users, including Dynamics 365 Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Copilot for Power Platform.
- An expansion of the new AI-powered Bingto Windows 11 system tray, mobile phone and Skype; Bing image creator for chatting; and full open platform review, with no waiting list required.
This is just the beginning of a new era of artificial intelligence. BecauseMicrosoft buildis so important During this event, we will show how AI is redefining what and how developers build, as well as how AI is changing the future of work.
Before we get to the news, let's talk about two concepts that we're discussing extensively during Microsoft Build:co-pilotsiaccessories.
Kopilot is an application that uses modern artificial intelligence and large-scale language models (LLMs) like GPT-4 to help people with complex tasks. Microsoft first introduced the concept of copilot almost two years ago with GitHub Copilot, a pair of AI developers who help developers write code, and we continue to release copilots across many of the company's core businesses.
We believe that copilot represents both a new paradigm in AI-powered software and a profound change in the way software is made, from imagining new product scenarios to user experience, architecture, services used, and ways to think about security and insurance.
Plugins are tools first introduced for ChatGPT, and more recently for Bing, that augment the capabilities of AI systems, allowing them to interact with the application programming interfaces (APIs) of other software and services to retrieve information. in real time, including business and other business. data, perform new types of calculations, and securely take action on behalf of users. Think of plugins as the link between the co-pilot and the rest of the digital world.
With that said, let's focus on the news and announcements we'll discover during the Microsoft Build.
Developing an ecosystem of AI plugins
it's microsoftadvertisingthat we will be adopting the same open plugin standard that OpenAI introduced for ChatGPT, enabling interoperability across ChatGPT and the breadth of Microsoft's co-pilot offering.
Developers can now useonea platform for building plugins that work across retail and consumer surfaces, including ChatGPT, Bing, Dynamics 365 Copilot, and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
And if you want to develop and use your own plugins with your AI application built on the Azure OpenAI service, it will be interoperable with this same standard plugin by default. This means that developers can create experiences that allow people to interact with their applications using the most natural user interface: human language.
As part of this common plugin platform,Bing is adding to its support for plugins. In addition to the previously announced additions to OpenTable and Wolfram Alpha, we will also have Expedia, Instacart, Kayak, Klarna, Redfin, and Zillow, among many others in the Bing ecosystem.
Along with the usual plug-in platform, Microsoft announces that Bing is coming to ChatGPT as the default search experience. ChatGPT will now have a built-in world-class search engine to provide more up-to-date answers with web access. Now responses are based on search and web data, and include citations so users can learn more, all right from the chat. The new experience starts today for ChatGPT Plus subscribers and will soon be available to free users simply by enabling the plugin.
Developers can now extend Microsoft 365 Copilot with plugins
We alsoadvertisingthat developers can now integrate their apps and services into Microsoft 365 Copilot with plugins.
Add-ons for Microsoft 365 Copilot include ChatGPT and Bing add-ons, as well as Teams messaging extensions and Power Platform connectors, allowing developers to leverage their existing investments. And developers will be able to easily create new plugins for Microsoft 365 Copilot with the Microsoft Teams Toolkit for Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio. Developers can also extend Microsoft 365 Copilot by inputting their data into the Microsoft Graph, contextualizing relevant and actionable information with newly announced announcements.Semantic index for copilot.
More than 50 partner plugins will be available to customers as part of the early access program, including Atlassian, Adobe, ServiceNow, Thomson Reuters, Moveworks and Mural, with thousands more available through general availability of Microsoft 365 Copilot.
